Short version: the app keeps your content on your machine, payments are handled by our payment provider Paddle, and we email your license key to you. The one feature that can send anything out is a translation line you switch on yourself, with your own API key.
The app is local-first
Langcap runs on your computer. Your media, the text it mines, your answers, and your progress stay on your device, and the app never uploads them. There is no account and no profile on our side; we cannot see what you study.
What the app does send
Three things reach the network, and none of them carries your study content unless you ask for it:
- Model downloads. Speech and language models download the first time a language needs them, from our file host. It is an ordinary download — nothing about you or your files is sent with it, and once a model is on disk it is not fetched again.
- A license check. About once a week, when you happen to be online, the app downloads a small signed list of refunded and charged-back orders and checks its own order against it on your machine. Your order id is never sent to us; we publish the list and your copy reads it. If you are offline the app keeps working — the check is never a condition of running.
- Optional translation, off by default. If you want a translation line beneath the transcript, you turn it on and paste in your own Google or Anthropic API key. From then on the sentence currently on screen is sent to that provider, under your key and their privacy policy, to be translated. It stays off until you do this, and turning it off stops it. Your media file is never sent — only the one line of text.
Your license email
When you buy Langcap, we send your license key to the email address from your order. That delivery is handled by Resend, our transactional email provider, which processes your email address only to send that message. We never sell or share it, and we don't add you to any marketing list.
Payments
When you buy or pre-order Langcap, the payment is handled by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. Paddle collects the billing details needed to process your order and charge your payment method, and acts as the data controller for that payment information — see Paddle's privacy policy. We receive only the limited order information we need to fulfill and support your purchase, such as your email, the product, and your country. We never see or store your full card details.
Analytics
The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It is privacy-friendly: no cookies, no fingerprinting, and no cross-site tracking. It does not identify you.
